How moderation works

Every review is checked before it is published. This page explains what we check, who checks it, how long it takes, and what happens when we get it wrong.

Before publication

Every submission passes through automated screening and human review. We check for content that names or identifies private individuals, accusations of criminal conduct stated as fact, personal data, confidential business information, discriminatory or harassing language, signs of coordinated or incentivised posting, and reviews that appear not to be first-hand.

Most reviews are approved within twenty-four hours. If we decline one, we tell the reviewer which rule it fell under and let them revise and resubmit.

What we deliberately do not check

We do not verify whether the events described actually happened. We cannot: we were not there, and no review platform can be. What we enforce is process, not truth. First-hand accounts only, opinion framed as opinion, no named private individuals, and a fair right of reply. A negative review is not removed for being negative.

After publication

Anyone can report a published review. Reports are triaged within two business days. If a review clearly violates policy, it is removed. If the case is serious and unclear, we may restrict visibility while we investigate rather than leave potentially harmful content live or remove legitimate criticism prematurely.

Who decides

Moderation decisions are made by our moderation team against a written standard, not by an algorithm alone and not by anyone with a commercial relationship with the employer being reviewed. Employers cannot buy moderation outcomes, and no advertiser, customer or partner receives preferential treatment.

Appeals

Reviewers whose content is declined and employers whose disputes are rejected can both appeal. Appeals are reviewed by someone who did not make the original decision. We aim to respond within five business days.
